Alternative hip-hop poet Hobo Johnson (and his lovemakers) shone bright in their first trip to Scotland, proving that his short rise to fame was more than justified.

From his eccentric and outlandish music videos it would easy to presume that a fun vibe would be brought to the concert, but instead Hobo carried on stage an illness that left him unable to roar as loud, but still allow his softer and poetic side to shine through.

In a concert no doubt cut short due to the performers sickness, the Californian ran through a selection of tracks from his 2018 debut album The Rise of Hobo Johnson.

Opening with his roaring Romeo & Juliet, the track was enough to get the Glasgow crowd jumping. The song set the tone of the gig, with its powerful lyrics describing the downfall of his parents relationship.

Through Sex in the City, Father and Creve Coeur 1 he and his band turned up the emotional ante. Hobo admitted to the crowd that he wasn’t the best hype man, but his power comes through the rawness of his delivery. Some of the crowd may not have been in favour of his poetic interludes, but his group of devout fans were in their element.

A weird but loved cover of Kelly Clarkson’s Since U Been Gone was a special treat, all before launching into the song that launched him into the mainstream; Peach Scone.
